Ann's Own Opinion

I'm one of those pathetic people who writes pathetic stories. Such people have a name, I think.

Who cares, right?

I love to read. A lot. More than I love to do that pathetic-story-writing stuff. And then I love to chat about what I read, whether I loved it or hated it. I'm all about the chat, baby.

Because, well, reading's no fun if ya' have no one to chat with about what you read. Whether to rant or to rave, I read to chat.

If it doesn't have romance in it, I don't wanna hear about it. Boo!

Will + Mia = A Mystical Alchemy...

That’s it. That’s all I have. This book has picked me up and deposited me into such a happy place, that I'm far too giddy at the moment to write a review that will make any sense. I’ll try coming back when I’m all calmed down to write something sensible and helpful.
But in the mean time, all I gotta say is, this book effing ROCKS!!!

I got a new book boyfriend and his name is Will Ryan.
"A fragment of light streamed over his winged forearm. He looked like a fallen angel waiting to be let back into heaven."

A great read on goodreads.

Reaper's Property (Reapers MC, #1)

Reaper's Property (Reapers MC, #1) - Joanna Wylde Was bored up until about 75% of this book. Horse just doesn’t do it for me. I hated him and then I kind of liked him and then I hated him again…

Don’t know. This is a popular book, so maybe it’s just me. Maybe I just don’t dig the whole unsanitary biker guys’ thing. I might be nitpicking here, but people rarely take showers in this book. They just jump into bed and sleep even after some really dirty events; then there’s no mention of shower in the morning to wash away all that overnight grime. Just brushing teeth and putting on clothes over dirty bodies. Don’t know why, but I kept picturing everyone being dirty, kept seeing STD’s and skin rashes, and sometimes feeling like I needed to take a shower myself. Horse was described as smelling like ‘motor oil and sweat’. Nah, I don’t dig that. Again, that’s just me. Hey, some women dig those big, sweaty, arm-pit-smelly kind ‘o guys. So never mind my distastes.

And oh how I HATE reading about men’s ‘calloused hands’ during sex scenes. Nope. Not sexy. It’s smart to be realistic in stories, but sometimes it’s okay to take advantage of the fact that it’s Fiction and omit some of those ‘un-sexy’ things.

Jeff? Biggest idiot on the planet. Got what he deserved. Dude’s an imbecile. How could he not see that coming?

Marie? Follows suit.

Horse? Too much for me. Felt no connection. He kept carrying around this grudge over Marie’s rejection, which is more a gesture of a woman than of a man. That turned me off from him. I mean, get the hell over it already and stop bitchin' bro. The man’s cock gets hard for everything. I’m pretty sure if Marie had a bullet lodged in the center of her forehead his cock would get hard for that, too.

"Marie looked around the room frantically, disbelief and shock written all over her face. Horse felt his cock harden and decided he was one sick fuck. The woman was terrified and she didn’t want him, yet she still turned him on."
See?

The villain? Well, I’m always a sucker for those bad guys. Teeeeeeeheeeee :D

All in all, it was an okay read for me. Just didn’t start enjoying it until the last couple of pages when shit got real. This one is loved by many, so never mind this review. I might’ve been in a shitty mood when I read it. That happens sometimes.

Fave quotes?
“I don’t know what the store policy was on couples in the rooms alone, but apparently it didn’t apply to giant bikers."

"He had to tackle your girl to get the gun away from her. She’d gone all Pulp Fiction on us, ready to defend you by killing all of us if she had to. Crouched over your body like Wonder Woman. Gives me a boner just thinking about it.”

""I swear if you say one more word I’m shooting you,” I growled, thoroughly disgusted. Of course he’d buy me an engagement gun.
Stupid biker."

An okay read on Goodreads.

Protecting What's His (Line of Duty, #1)

Protecting What's His (Line of Duty, #1) - Tessa Bailey “Do you feel that, baby? That’s your man moving inside you.”

Hot damn! I loved this book!

Now, in my romances, I’ve never been a fan of heroes with any of these professions: Police/detective, lawyer, firefighter and, by gad, doctor (of any kind). I tend to like my heroes as rugged assholes or masters of their own universe, enigmatic and all that alpha-male-y stuff.
But Ms. Bailey has managed to strike ‘Police/detective’ off my list of tasteless heroes. I loved Derek. He’s a mighty fine specimen with a dirty mouth and is possessive with a CAPITALIZED, bold and italicized P.
“How can you be jealous of other men, Derek, when you know there’s only been you?”
“Baby, I’m jealous of men who haven’t even seen you yet.”

Derek saw Ginger, wanted her, and slowly but surely took his time to make her his.

Ginger? She’s my type o’ gal. Hardcore, witted, quick with words, is sexy as sin, knows it, owns it and flaunts it to have her way. She’s that unpredictable southern gal that makes Derek think before he acts and carefully times his every move. Yeah, she wrapped that sucker around her wiggly pinky finger: “Look at me. You own me. I’m owned.”

Ginger’s so down-to-earth that I was shocked as hell to find out that she’s…

It was fun to be in Ginger’s head and the dialog was good, too.

“Why couldn’t he just talk to her, order her around—something?
“Take off your clothes,” he directed without turning around.
Okay scratch that, she so wasn’t in the mood to be ordered around. Ginger scoffed. “Not a chance.”

Possessing a filthy ass mouth, Willa, Ginger’s younger sister, was also a very interesting character and I enjoyed her gradual change on her move to Chicago, even though I wished her change was on account of something else (like a life goal, an inspiration, a self-promise…) instead of a boy.

All in all, I loved this book and only dropped a star for the parts where Ginger head-rambled too much about the same stuff over and over, page fillers I suppose.

Scorpio Awakens - Lilith Darville "...Big Hugh--that's what she called my cock, short for Hugh G. Rection..."

Scorpio Awakens is not your everyday romance. It’s centered on a married couple, Tim and Katherine King, who are both passionately in love with each other and is strangled by curiosity along with the driving need to take their sex life to higher heights.

Katherine is a strong, fierce, no-bullshit woman in the world’s eyes, but behind closed doors she’s all about yielding to commands. She loves her husband to pieces but doesn’t feel he’s capable of ‘scratching her itch’.

Tim King is equally in love with his wife, and trusts her enough to allow her the freedom of exploring her sexuality, BUT, he’s gotta be in on that shit.

Now onto… ooooh, yes, right there Master Conner, right there…Conner McCloud, the hot undercover billionaire, he can come and ‘scratch my itch’ any day! Wish there was more of him, though.

For the first four or so chapters of this book, I was thinking ‘three stars’ for the main reason that these starting chapters were the epitome of telling and not showing. I couldn’t place myself in the environment or see the characters’ faces, all I saw was the words on the pages, if ya’ get what I mean. But after I was given the opportunity to leave Katherine’s boring head and bounce around in the other characters’ head, the story grew more and more interesting and quickly graduated to four stars.

It also helps that I’m a Scorpio: “Scorpio is the most sexually charged of all the Zodiac signs.”
We are, aren’t we? *wink*

I enjoyed it. I liked all the characters. There’s lots of sex, BUT, not repetitive sex with the same people. Isn’t that given? Everyone was getting laid in this book…or whipped…or sucked…even blackmail sex was being enjoyed!

Oh, Cecile is my favorite character. I always love the villains! Mwahahahaha!!

Walking Disaster - Jamie McGuire So, um, *scratches head*…Yeah, I basically waited an eternity for a revised version of Beautiful Disaster…

Pause.

Long-winded sigh of disappointment.

Let me just say, I’m a HUGE fan of Beautiful Disaster. Travis Maddox is actually the playa who took me out of my CG funk. (You know, that dude with the gray eyes and gray tie, drives an Audi R8 and lives at Escala. I’m not afraid to say he was once my book boyfriend, too.)

Now, because I lurrrved Travis Maddox soooo much, I was EXCITED about the story being written from his POV, you know. And I was impatient, like every other TM fan for it to be released, you know. I even pre-ordered it and shit, you know.

But when I began reading, that wide grin slowly slipped off my face, then I frowned, then scowled, then I got angry, then I wanted to cry…
Yes, the story is being told from Travis’s POV, but being in his head didn’t reveal anything that couldn’t have been imagined by readers from Abby’s POV. Most of the scenes were just replayed with absolutely NO thoughts from Travis about the situation, just word for word dialog. What the hell’s the point then?! Grrrrr.

For example, I wanted to know what had made Travis determined to work for Benny when he came back from Vegas. The resolution that he’d had about it which made Abby leave him. Where are all the thoughts that should’ve been in between Vegas and Abby’s leaving?

I was expecting to see things like:
Shit, six freakin’ figures? Why the hell would I be stupid enough to turn that shit down. Abby can’t see how fucktastic this would be for us, but she would see soon. And she’d come around to it. I could get her a new car. We could even get a nice house with a huge backyard where Todo would be free to run around and shit and piss and dig holes and bury bones…Damn, six goddamn figures per fight! We’d be set for a while after just a couple of fights. We’d be alright. Abby would be alright. Life would be alright…No shit, I’m doing this. I’m going to take Benny’s offer…

Or some dumb crap like that, you know. That's what caused their biggest break-up, so that's the part I was mostly looking forward to Travis’s thoughts on.

I love Travis so much and I just wasn’t getting much of anything from him and it pissed me the hell off.

I was excited…

*Sob*

Really excited, you know.

*Wipes away tears*

Wait, there was an epilogue, wasn't there? Yeah, that kind of cheered me up a bit. I almost got teary-eyed and THAT’s exactly what I was looking for, MORE of Travis, not the same freaking thing being replayed word for word with no thoughts from him.

Swear to the gods of sexy book boyfriends, I’m pissier than a ram goat right now.

A disappointing read on Goodreads.
